Political Treason, High Crimes, and Bad Demeanors
President Bush committed political treason today | Philadelphia Daily News | 05/15/2008
JERUSALEM (CNN) – In a particularly sharp blast from halfway around the world, President Bush suggested Thursday that Sen. Barack Obama and other Democrats are in favor of "appeasement" of terrorists in the same way U.S. leaders appeased Nazis in the run-up to World War II.
"Some seem to believe we should negotiate with terrorists and radicals, as if some ingenious argument will persuade them they have been wrong all along," said Bush, in what White House aides privately acknowledged was a reference to calls by Obama and other Democrats for the U.S. president to sit down for talks with leaders like Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
"We have heard this foolish delusion before," Bush said in remarks to the Israeli Knesset. "As Nazi tanks crossed into Poland in 1939, an American Senator declared: ‘Lord, if only I could have talked to Hitler, all of this might have been avoided.’ We have an obligation to call this what it is — the false comfort of appeasement, which has been repeatedly discredited by history."
Too many people are content to simply wait for Bush’s term to expire in January. Trying to convince Israel that the likely next President of the United States would appease Nazi Germany and effectively sell them down the railroad to Auschwitz is completely unacceptable from any sitting President, Democrat or Republican.
Look at the uproar Neocons got into over President Carter’s supposed analog of "Israeli Apartheid" in reference to the horrible conditions the Palestinians are living in (regardless of how they got there). And Carter doesn’t even have power, except his voice. Bush has abused his misbegotten power beyond any tolerable limit for our system of government. We simply can not ignore his behavior, his belligerence, his and his crony’s crimes, and still claim to be a Democracy governed by the Rule of Law.
Unless we deal with him, we will rightly be seen by the entire world as a sham — the world’s largest consumer of bullshit.
And if you think that somehow the Neocons have any idea what they’re talking about with respect to "appeasement" before WWII, let this settle the matter:
