GOP Blocks “No Confidence” vote for Gonzales
The Raw Story | Senate Democrats fail to pass no confidence vote on Gonzales
It turns out the 53 votes Dems got would have been enough to pass the “no confidence” resolution on Alberto Gonzales. But instead of that, the Republicans forced a virtual filibuster, which required a special cloture vote, needing 60 to end it. The Democrats failed to get those 60 votes, so the “no confidence” resolution never actually made it to the floor for a straight up or down vote. It’s dead.
Rather than lose like this, I would have preferred if the Dems shoved this gutless filibuster down the Republican’s throats and made them actually talk for days on end to protect Alberto Gonzales. I wonder if the country would have stood by while they did that? I doubt it.
So Gonzales is safe for now, at least until more evidence comes out. But with these loyal Bushies hanging around, it seems that Gonzales would have to show up with a coat made of human skin before anyone they’ll take a stand to oppose him, and even then, only if it was rich and white.
It’s rather sickening, isn’t it?
