Secret Rulers of the World - The Satanic Shadowy Elite? - Google Video

Spend an hour watching this if you have the time. This documentary follows Alex Jones, conspiracy commentator and provakateur, as he infiltrates The Bohemian Grove, the yearly retreat for some of the world’s most influential people.

The fact that presidents, media moguls, and world leaders attend the Bohemian Grove is the world’s worst-kept secret. There are pictures of Nixon and Reagan from there. And it’s fairly assured that Rove, Cheney, Bush Jr., and current administration officials have also attended in recent years.

Until Jones’ footage aired, the ceremony they stage had never been filmed. That ceremony is apparently a mashup of various pre-Judeo-Christian rites, including a mock ritual sacrifice to an owl god with the burning of a child-like figure, overdubbed with really bad, overdramatic acting, and a visit by the devil himself.

But the real meat of the documentary is the clash between the paranoid Patriot movement, who believe the connection between the Waco debacle/massacre and Oklahoma City, New World Order, and probably 911, are simply more forms of satanic ritual sacrifice, vs. the likely reality of a summer camp for overgrown children. The ceremony, as I saw it, was more of a secret ritual stage play, much as any fraternity would do, that seeks to burn away the cares of these world leaders so they can enjoy two weeks of high-stakes social schmoozing. The fact that schmoozing for these people includes pissing on trees is more of a story to me than the mock owl worship. Had the stage play been a Christian-themed Jesus-worship-fest, as one of the people in the video seems to have preferred, I would be much more afraid.

This does not dismiss, however, allegations that some of the so-called fun had by attendees in private may be worse than juvenile. That Franklin Savings and Loan scandal I mentioned earlier (a video of that documentary is now on Google Video) includes allegations that some of the kids from Boys Town were flown to Bohemian Grove. And that’s much easier for me to believe. Leaders who are not much better than overgrown children are, as I’ve pointed out before, pathologically similar to high-functioning pedophiles, in their manner of rationalizing their actions, if not in the anti-social actions themselves. Those who believe they’re above the law are that much more likely to indulge in sexual games with powerless people of their own mental age.

But it’s pretty clear to me after watching this that the stupid shows that go on there are designed to release these people from their normal chains of responsibility for the sake of bonding and recreation. I just hope there are some adults left among them.

As for Alex Jones, he’s quite convincing, if you turn off your brain. On a recent visit to his site, I was intrigued by one bit of 911 alternate conspiracy evidence he hyped: a WTC worker witnessed (WITNESSED!) an 2nd explosion — in the basement of the WTC, before the towers collapsed. It sounds damming to those who believe explosives brought the towers down. But even in the very video hosted on Jones’ site, the worker clearly states that 2nd explosion was the freight elevator crashing down.

And in this documentary, a similar occurrence–in the list of big-wig attendees, Danny Glover, who is about as anti-capitalist as it gets for Hollywood (in an earlier day and age, he’d be blacklisted. Today, he just gets people like Joe Scarborough to get him fired from advertising gigs). Harry Scherer had a good summary towards the end. And the woman who protests Bohemian Grove every year has the best perspective (paraphrasing): these assholes do enough to us out in the open that we should be concerned with, who cares what do with a mock ritual owl.

This is as much an indictment of the silliness of patriot conspiracy movement as it is of the leaders who need to be children for two weeks (or more) every year. All in all, I’m left wondering if I really belong to the same species. Maybe I’m the odd one out.

I know a few people who have attended the Bohemian Grove summer-fests. Bottom line, this is a get-away for rich-well-connected people so they can talk in a relaxed environment with other rich-well-connected people. The ceremony is a hold over from the 50’s (when that type of theatre was popular), but all it really does is begin a two-week meet and greet by trying to adhere to their motto “weaving spiders come not here” (meaning: don’t do business here) via the burning of an effigy that symbolizes outside concerns. Think of it as burning man for the manicured set.

The people who I know who have gone have all had the same complaint… food is adequate - could be better, and there are no women, so it gets boring.

But I like the conspiracy theories… they are ripe for fiction writers.

That Bohemian Grove-y effigy-to-be-ritually-burned had a name, and so the yearly ceremony was called “the burning of ‘Care’,” acc. to pretty lengthy feature article about the goings at Grove in SPY Magazine [New York; R.I.P.] c:a 1989-1991? (look for a cover with Henry Kissinger, apparently a perennial presence there, wearing a coconut brassiere ;-))
